Haiti's 2026 World Cup squad: 52 years later and turning heads
- Haiti returns to a World Cup after 52 years (last participation in 1974), with a squad formed mainly by players from the European and American diaspora
- The team managed to finish first in their qualifying group playing all matches away from home due to the country's instability, demonstrating a feat of great merit
- The national team has players in major leagues such as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (Wolverhampton) and Wilson Isidor (Sunderland), led by historical top scorer Duckens Nazon (44 goals) and captain Johny Placide (38 years old), who makes his World Cup debut at that age
Haiti pulls off one of the most thrilling stories of the World Cup (Group C, alongside Brazil and Morocco). Les Grenadiers return after half a century, with a diaspora squad and plenty of heart. Fun fact: their manager, Migné, has never actually set foot in Haiti.
🧤 The captain is veteran keeper Johny Placide (38), making his World Cup debut at that age.
🔙 Haiti ends a 52-year drought: they'd only played one World Cup before, back in 1974. A squad forged across the European and American diaspora is making history.
