What's up, folks? Today the world champion national team plays at the Tartiere, so it's time to ask what half of Spain is wondering: how much does Luis de la Fuente earn? Spoiler: quite a bit more than before winning the World Cup. Fair warning: the RFEF hasn't made the figure public, so I'm telling you what the press has reported and who's saying it.
His contract was due to end at Euro 2028, but after the second star the Federation decided not to wait: he'll stay through 2032, with Euro 2028, the 2030 World Cup (which Spain is hosting with Portugal and Morocco) and Euro 2032 ahead of him. RFEF president Rafael Louzán had already warned in August that the manager wasn't among the ten highest-paid, but that he would be. And that's exactly what happened.
His trophy cabinet backs it up: 2023 Nations League, Euro 2024 and 2026 World Cup, beating Argentina in the final. Three titles in less than four years since he took the job in December 2022.
Before the renewal, Finance Football's report on manager salaries at the 2026 World Cup had him at around 2.3 million euros, in eleventh place, level with the managers of Ecuador, Colombia or South Korea. Not much for the European champion. With the renewal, according to Cadena SER, he's now on between 4 and 5 million gross: practically double.
| # | Manager | National Team | Salary (M€) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Carlo Ancelotti | Brazil | 9.5 |
| 2 | Thomas Tuchel | England | 5.9 |
| 3 | Julian Nagelsmann | Germany | 4.9 |
| 4 | 🇪🇸 Luis de la Fuente | Spain | 4-5 |
| 5 | Mauricio Pochettino | United States | 4 |
| 5 | Fabio Cannavaro | Uzbekistan | 4 |
Figures published by Libertad Digital following De la Fuente's renewal (September 2026). These are press estimates; federations don't make contracts public.
Funny thing: the world champion is still earning quite a bit less than Ancelotti, who hasn't won anything with Brazil, and less than Tuchel. But it's a massive jump for a coach who arrived from the Federation's lower categories, where he started in 2013 managing the Under-19s.
The first time Spain plays in Asturias as two-time world champions, and De la Fuente's first time as manager in Oviedo. All the build-up to Spain-Czech Republic is in our match article. And if you're into the salary stuff, a couple of days ago we covered Lamine Yamal's.
The RFEF has not published the figure. According to Cadena SER, after renewing in September 2026 until 2032, he earns between 4 and 5 million euros gross per season. Previously he earned around 2.3 million, according to Finance Football.
Until 2032. The RFEF Board of Directors unanimously approved his renewal on 21 September 2026, two months after winning the World Cup.
According to figures published in September 2026, Carlo Ancelotti (Brazil), with approximately 9.5 million euros, followed by Thomas Tuchel (England, 5.9) and Julian Nagelsmann (Germany, 4.9). De la Fuente would be among the top five with 4-5 million.
