What's up, legends? If you follow Rubius at all, you've probably caught the clip: during a live stream he was wearing trainers that didn't officially exist yet. Days later, MadKat, his brand, and Siroko announced the collab. And obviously, the question half the internet's asking is the classic one: was it a slip-up or was it all planned?
I do content too and I've been working with Siroko for a while now, so here's how I see it.
My honest take: I don't care, because it worked. But if you ask me, a "slip-up" from someone with millions of followers and a launch that goes live days later with a fully built website, photos and pre-orders ready to go… crystal clear. And there's nothing wrong with it: it's one of the oldest tricks in the book for building hype. You show something without explaining it, the community goes mad trying to figure out what it is, and when you announce it everyone's already waiting.
The thing is, it works way better with a creator than with an ad. If a brand posts a "leaked" photo, it screams campaign. If Rubius is wearing it live on stream, people feel like they've caught a secret themselves.
This is the play I love most. Siroko's been doing this across the whole ONE line, but with a collab like this it hits different:
A few years ago, "a YouTuber's merch" was a t-shirt with your logo slapped on it and that was it. This is the big league: a proper brand co-creating technical product with a creator, with their universe, their aesthetic and their story. Siroko already does this with clubs like Sporting and Rayo, with festivals, with their own collections, and MadKat fits that mould perfectly.
As a creator I'll tell you this is where it's all heading: less "stick my face on a mug" and more products with actual substance, the kind of stuff people would buy even if they'd never heard of you.
Check out the official announcement image: Rubius isn't holding an actual trainer, he's holding an illustrated sketch. And on Siroko's website, the MadKat photos are marked as AI-generated images because it's pre-order. In other words: they're selling them before the first pair leaves the factory. Only someone with Rubius's pulling power can pull that off… and a brand that trusts him.
Siroko is the Gijón brand that kits out Real Sporting. When the hometown brand teams up with the biggest Spanish-speaking creator out there, it's brilliant for us lot. And Rubén, you already know: you've got the trainers, you've got the Sporting shirt… all you need to do now is come down to El Molinón. 🔴⚪
They were seen during a livestream before the official announcement and shortly after MadKat and Siroko presented the collaboration. Whether it was an oversight or a strategy has not been confirmed, but the effect was that of an anticipation campaign.
