📝 Match report

RCD Mallorca ended the newly promoted Sabadell's unbeaten run, defeating them 2-0 thanks to a stunning brace from Adrián Fuentes before the half-hour mark on a Sunday afternoon where the reds proved why they're favourites at Son Moix and Sabadell learned that going four matchdays unbeaten counts for nothing when your concentration and defensive cover crumble against hungry strikers. The Catalan side started with ambition and looked to cause damage down the left wing, where Valjent and Calatayud struggled to stop the visiting attacks, but the story would be written differently when Arnau Tenas picked up the ball and, from his area, launched it long towards Adrián Fuentes, who collected it in opposing territory and slipped a perfect chip over Fuoli with barely ten minutes on the clock. The first goal came early, far too early. Fuentes finally converted the first real chance he'd had—the Madrid-born striker had been rather wasteful until now when it came to testing the opposition goal—but when a poor run ends, Fuentes was there to turn it into a clinical brace. In the 24th minute, Sabadell defender Urri played a short pass back, Fuentes pounced in and rounded the keeper to double Mallorca's lead, an error that sealed the visitors' fate before the half-hour: the match was done, the first real test of Son Moix for the harlequins turned out to be a mirage. After the restart, Sabadell's manager made four substitutions and the game changed dramatically: the visitors created plenty of chances but were blocked by Mallorca's keeper, who made several important saves, because Tenas didn't just distribute the ball from his area—he knew how to defend it when things got serious. Mallorca claimed their third home win and moved to 10 points, two behind leaders Castellón, while Sabadell suffered their first defeat of the season. Promotions aren't decided in early September, as any sensible coach would tell you, but some rivals learn faster than others that in Segunda División every defensive mistake costs a goal and every goal could cost you your place.
