Sabadell crushed Oviedo at the Nova Creu Alta with a commanding 3-1 that shattered the Asturian side's defensive record, the team that had arrived in Catalonia boasting the league's best defence with just one goal conceded in their opening five matches. Ferran Costa had everything in his favour, but the blue-and-whites proved anything but pushovers: the harlequins came out snapping from minute one and Oviedo, clumsy and tactically lost, barely managed a response with just one clear-cut chance in the first half that could have been something special but Catalá and Isfan's gloved hands shut the door with a providential save. Gastón Valles opened the scoring with a header at the back post just twenty-two minutes in, finishing off a Joel Priego cross from the left after a Juan Cruz marking error, an assist that had been preceded by an Óscar Sanz switch of play that showcased the hosts' attacking fluidity. Youness tried his luck from distance and Fuoli was unconvincing in his attempt to save, but Isfan arrived just in time to nod over the bar when he had it all set up to make it 1-1, a chance that better defines what the night meant for the Carboners than any stat sheet ever could. Óscar Sanz doubled the lead two minutes before half-time from a corner, another header against an Oviedo defence that had vanished from their own game plan, even though they'd shown themselves to be an almost impenetrable unit until then. The second half began with a scare for the harlequins when Pablo Sáenz struck a stunning effort from outside the box that rattled Diego Fuoli's crossbar, that fleeting moment when Oviedo believed in a comeback only for it to come to nothing because Sabadell were too comfortable, controlling without needing to unleash their full firepower. Estanis Pedrola came on after the break and spiced things up in the 67th minute with a moment of genius from the edge of the box, powerful and unstoppable, his only flash of brilliance in ninety minutes of collective impotence. The visitors barely had time to dream of an equaliser because in the 78th minute Ángel Baena sealed it after a quick exchange with Quadri Liameed, wrapping up a third straight home win for Sabadell, who sit in the promotion places with eleven points from eighteen possible in a trajectory that's astonishing for a newly promoted side. Oviedo drop to thirteenth and are wounded, defeated not just on the scoreline but in their tactical approach and collective intensity, something Sabadell hammered them with all night without breaking a sweat: keep it simple, play quick, no complications. A week before the Asturian derby, Julián Calero leaves the Nova Creu Alta very much nursing his wounds and with plenty of reasons for some hard self-examination.
