📝 Match report

Girona took all three points from Nuevo Mirandilla with a 1-2 that doesn't tell the full story of Cádiz's reaction after the break, yet another reminder that the yellows are cursed to suffer even when they've got chances to climb back into it. The Cádiz side rack up a third consecutive defeat that drags out their agony in the relegation zone, while the Catalans cement their spot in the promotion fight with a controlling performance in the first half. The levante wind had a say in a match that started well for the hosts, with García Pascual getting a clear chance barely two minutes in after winning the ball, but he couldn't beat Gazzaniga. Girona gradually took control as the minutes ticked by and, exploiting the vulnerability of Cádiz's defence down the left flank where Álex Moreno was a persistent thorn in Juan Díaz's side, they went ahead in the 35th when Vanat finished a low cross from the visiting fullback to beat Ezkieta. Nine minutes later, Carles Pérez made it worse with a powerful shot to the near post that the Cádiz keeper couldn't keep out, pretty much wrapping up the game before half-time. However, Cádiz came out a different side after the restart. In the 47th minute, straight after the break, Juan Díaz pulled off a quality bit of individual play and linked up with Sergio Arribas, whose shot took a deflection off David López and flew past the visiting goalkeeper: the 1-2 got Celades' side back in the game. The hosts hunted for the equaliser relentlessly in the closing stages, but Girona managed their lead well and left with a win that cements their place among the favourites for automatic promotion. For Cádiz, another kick in the teeth in a season that's looking increasingly desperate, no time for tears when what you need to do is win by any means necessary.
