Girona returned this Sunday to the promotion places in LaLiga Hypermotion with a solid victory against Andorra (2-0), with goals from Bryan Gil and Vladyslav Vanat in the first half-hour. The hosts started the match fired up and barely took five minutes to find the back of the net. The opening goal came in the 5th minute, with a free-kick from Bryan that caught Jesús Owono off guard. It wasn't down to luck: Bryan Gil executed with precision and the visiting goalkeeper couldn't do much about it. Andorra did react with some ambition, though. Carles Manso's side took control of the match after conceding, facing a rival that was equally comfortable whether they had the ball or were sitting deep and hitting on the break, with the visitors' possession topping 60%. But Girona's defensive solidity was nearly impenetrable. They only had one half-decent chance in the first half: a shot from Jordi Cano that ended up as a corner after a good save from Paulo Gazzaniga. The second act came from a howler by the visiting goalkeeper. In the 31st minute Owono made a grave error trying to show off in front of Vanat and the Ukrainian striker nicked the ball off him and made it 2-0 at his leisure. That settled it. Girona were cruising and could even have celebrated a 3-0 on a clear counterattack that Bryan failed to finish. The red-and-whites from Girona threw up an impenetrable wall. Andorra finished with over 65% possession, but barely created danger beyond a timid header from Moro Sidibe and a couple of shots from range by Efe Akman and Hugo López. It was a poisoned gift for the visitors: they played nice football for pretty much the whole game, but their opponents' errors and their own lack of ruthlessness in the box punished them without mercy. The match was played in front of 9,500 fans at Estadi de Montilivi. A victory that genuinely boosts morale at Montilivi.
