Granada secured their third consecutive victory to establish themselves in the upper echelons of LaLiga Hypermotion with a commanding 2-0 win over Cádiz at Nuevo Los Cármenes, with the visitors putting in a woeful display and suffering their second straight defeat. In front of 15,422 spectators, nearly a thousand of them travelling supporters, Pacheta's red-and-whites settled the Andalusian derby with real authority in the second half, when Cádiz simply vanished from the pitch. The first half was balanced but utterly devoid of drama, save for some decent attempts from Manu Lama, Pedro Alemañ and Rubén Alcaraz, all comfortably dealt with by a Cádiz side that defended reasonably but looked timid going forward, with Antoñito Cordero their only source of menace in a couple of efforts that were well snuffed out by Alberto Flores. Half-time arrived without incident: 0-0 with precious little to report. Everything changed after the restart. In the 50th minute, Gerard Gumbau made it 1-0 following a brilliant move and assist from Sergio Rodelas. The goal woke the crowd but Cádiz remained sleepwalking. In the 66th minute it was 2-0, Jorge Pascual the scorer after a slick counterattack orchestrated by Pedro Alemañ, with the Granada striker finishing clinically after peeling away in the box. The joy in the stands contrasted sharply with Cádiz desperation: the yellows barely troubled anyone after conceding the first goal, utterly unable to respond to opponents who, without being particularly brilliant, did exactly what was needed to wrap things up inside twenty second-half minutes. A derby more about game management than pretty football, but ruthlessly executed by the red-and-whites, who continue building momentum in the playoff spots while Cádiz slide deeper into sporting crisis and—according to reports—a dramatic off-field situation heading into the coming matchdays.
