📝 Match report

The final whistle confirmed the 2-0 result and Albacete Balompié's first victory of the 2026/2027 season. After ten matchdays of suffering, nine defeats and a draw, the La Mancha side finally picked up three points in one go, and the feeling was of a team reborn at Carlos Belmonte. Albacete welcomed Eldense, who arrived in flying form with three consecutive wins, but the hosts' high press stifled any semblance of visiting football from the off. Albacete's aggressive pressing made it difficult for Eldense to get the ball out from the back from the start, and from it came the first chance, though it was Ortuño who had his own opportunity in the third minute. This wasn't a match for the faint-hearted: victory was essential, it was a matter of solidity, and Joseba Etxeberria knew it. The breakthrough came in the 20th minute. Following a throw-in, San Bartolomé seized the moment to make it 1-0 and unleash the joy at the Belmonte. The pent-up passion of a crowd that had been waiting five months for this exploded in an instant, and rightly so. In the 24th minute, Albacete demanded a penalty for a handball by Juan Larios in a clearance, which referee Daniel Palencia judged to be unintentional—a decision that could have been pivotal had it been interpreted differently. But the La Mancha side were already brimming with confidence. Higinio came close to the second with a header that grazed the crossbar in the 29th, and he found his moment in the last minute of the first half: he struck with his right foot from the centre of the area after a Víctor Valverde cross. Two goals before the break, the match was done. Albacete defeated Eldense 2-0 in front of 12,924 spectators in the eleventh matchday of the Segunda División, in a contest where they were far superior to their opponents and which allows them to believe in survival. The Belmonte witnessed their side suffer less than feared, victorious and convincing, displaying that winning mentality that had been so sorely missing in these opening ten matchdays. Etxeberria now has his first home triumph, and with it, a glimmer of hope restored to Albacete.
