Castellón struck the first blow of authority at Balaídos against a Celta Fortuna side that could barely get a breather on a tricky afternoon in Segunda División. Goals from Fran Castillo in the ninth minute, Pablo Santiago in the forty-eighth and Óscar Marcos in the 79th defined a match where the Celta B-team showed enormous talent but where the Valencia club's defensive solidity proved insurmountable for much of the encounter. Castillo opened the scoring after a massive defensive lapse at Celta, when the visitors' dominance was absolutely overwhelming. Castellón came close to a second when a Córdoba cross-shot crashed against the post and a solo run from Camara, who fluffed his one-on-one with Coke Carrillo. Castellón's attacking superiority was suffocating and the Celta youngsters, for all their youth, struggled to win the ball back; Fredi Álvarez's lads barely troubled things in the first half with a header from Álvaro Marín before the break. At half-time the Celta boss made changes and brought on Burcio and Kibet, a substitution that seemed to inject some life into the home side. Kibet robbed centre-back Alberto and Ángel Arcos had a crystal-clear chance whose shot flew too high, but that miss proved costly. On the very next play, Pablo Santiago settled the away side's victory with a fine finish after receiving from Fran Castillo. Celta Fortuna refused to throw in the towel despite the disaster. After the second goal the B-team went all-in and a Castellón side that started to labour to hold onto the win nearly lost it in the closing stages: Somuah smashed his effort against the crossbar and Davila's follow-up flew over. Óscar Marcos wrapped it up in the 79th, although the Celta push came too late to change the outcome of a match where poor defensive concentration in the opening minutes and Castellón's clinical finishing on the break ultimately made all the difference. A harsh defeat for the sky-blues, who miss out on extending their unbeaten streak, but who continue to show, even in defeat, why they boast such a talented academy.
