📝 Match report

Leganés got the better of Eldense with a 1-0 victory under the watchful eye of Álvaro Morata from the Butarque stands, with Miguel Atienza finishing off the winning goal right on the 90-minute mark. The Madrid night looked set for a share of the spoils, but football has a way of punishing you. Eldense put together a solid second half and were consistently closer to goal than the home side, winning almost everything, but conceded defeat in the 90th minute. Brutal, yes, but that's the beauty of sport. In front of around 12,000 spectators at Butarque's Ontime stadium, the visitors came to compete, not to hand anything out for free.

Barragán surprised everyone with a five-man defence and a 5-4-1 initially, and Leganés started by creating more danger, forcing Ramón Vila into action against a Patrick Soko effort. Eldense responded through Fidel, who became one of the main attacking threats and came close to scoring before half-time. Luca Zidane was equally crucial for Leganés' second win in three matchdays when he denied Fidel Chaves what would have been the opener in the 20th minute. A crucial save, pure reflex. After the interval, Barragán tweaked the system without making substitutions and switched to 4-4-2, chasing greater solidity and attacking presence.

The second half belonged to Eldense tactically. Suleimane made his LaLiga debut in the 82nd minute and seven minutes later set up Miguel Atienza for the goal, following a chance from Álex Millán when Leganés loaded the box again. That was the hosts' moment of magic. Rubén Albés' moves gave Leganés more attacking thrust, and although Eldense took eight corners to Leganés' none, it was the visitors who had 16 shots compared to the Madrid side's 11. The stats favoured Eldense, but the scoreboard only registered one goal for the home side. Leganés showed one of the traits that are defining this season's start: their ability to compete until the bitter end. That's Segunda Division football for you, mate: winning doesn't always mean playing well. Sometimes it's just about being alive when the final whistle blows.
