Granada stormed the Arcángel with a brilliant second-half performance to overturn Córdoba's early lead and win 1-3, in an Andalusian derby where the locals' intensity got spent in the opening two minutes. Diego Percan made the most of an excellent lay-off from Diego Bri to beat Lizoain with a chip over the top right on the stroke of the second minute, unleashing early euphoria at an Arcángel that dreamed of a perfect afternoon. But football, as anyone who's watched a couple of matches knows, has that cruel habit of mocking the optimists. Trailing, Granada gradually gained ground under Rubén Alcaraz's midfield leadership, who tried his luck with a powerful long-range effort just before half-time, while Córdoba dug in through right-wing transitions that never quite came off.
The second half arrived and with it came Pacheta's changes: Pascual, Owen and Marqués came on for Chinaza, Rodelas and Alemañ, and the match flipped completely. Owen created a corner almost the moment his boots touched the grass and that's when the leveller came: Marqués nodded the ball, it bounced off Lama and Bourama Dembelé appeared in the box to collect it and send it into the net. From there, the 1-1 gave Granada confidence, they looked far more competitive, intense and solid in the challenges. Córdoba had their chances, but the visiting defence, with Lizoain commanding the high balls, held firm.
In the closing stages the floodgates opened. Diallo came close after a brilliant cross from Sergio López, but it was the 90th minute when Granada's second arrived. Córdoba had a golden chance to level deep into injury time, but Enol Rodríguez sent a completely unmarked finish over the bar. The cruelest moment of the match: to have the goal at your feet and watch it sail into the sky at the worst possible time. Granada didn't miss in the next transition: in the 96th minute, Marqués carried the ball forward, played it smart and beat Iker Álvarez with a left-footed strike to seal a 1-3 final score. The Arcángel let out a sigh of resignation. Granada, from the bench, had dismantled the future Córdoba had built in barely two minutes and twenty seconds. That's how it goes.
