📝 Match report

The unbeaten run is over, and in the cruelest way football knows: Sporting dominated, pinned Girona back and created chances by the bucketful, yet Girona had two shots and walked away with both goals from El Molinón. The first came on 27 minutes, a hoof from Gazzaniga from his own area that Asprilla, in a more than dodgy position, turned into a work of art with a perfect touch and a chip worthy of a player operating at a different level entirely. The second, on 76, from a damned counter-attack: Pablo Vázquez stepped, caught a tuft of grass and slipped, and Carles Pérez, alone on the edge of the box, buried it where no keeper can reach. In between, a relentless red-and-white siege that yielded nothing: Guille Rosas' left foot licking the top corner in the 2nd minute, a crystal-clear chance just before half-time, Loum's thunderbolt, Pablo Vázquez's strikes and Antonio Casas' header scraping the post, all crashing against a Gazzaniga who was, by a mile, the best player on the pitch. There was even a academy debut, young Bruno Rubio's, who came on fearless and with the ball glued to his feet. And at the end something happened that tells you everything about this fanbase: the team lost and the entire Molinón got to their feet and applauded, the complete opposite of what happened in the Sabadell draw. Losing like this, to the most expensive squad in the division, hurts differently: if Sporting play every match like this one, they won't lose many.
