The pivotal moment was Aldasoro's challenge on Galdames, which was initially shown a yellow card but became a straight red after a VAR review, leaving the blues playing with a numerical disadvantage for nearly the entire second half. Real Oviedo dominated proceedings from the off, winning the physical battle, playing with real intensity and spending almost the entire match in Burgos territory, who couldn't get past the midfield. Before the ten-minute mark, Jacobo had a header that came agonisingly close to the post, and Dani Calvo forced keeper Cantero into action from a corner. Oviedo continued operating in a 4-4-1 formation due to Aldasoro's early sending-off, and although Burgos fancied their chances after the restart, the blues held firm and Jacobo fired over in one of the match's best opportunities. A golden chance for David González that Aarón Escandell managed to deny preceded the first substitutions. With over an hour still to play and an extra man on the pitch, Burgos had the perfect context to impose themselves, but the side seemed to catch a tactical lethargy that made life easier for a wounded yet incredibly organised Oviedo, barely noticing the numerical advantage during the closing stages of the first half. In the end, a disappointing result for the Burgos lads, who with an extra player couldn't find a way past a Sporting side that put on a masterclass in resistance and pride.
