📝 Match report

Almería secured their fourth consecutive victory in LaLiga Hypermotion away at Mallorca (0-1), with a goal from Miguel de la Fuente, who capitalised on a howler from red-and-white keeper Arnau Tenas and inflicted Mallorca's first home defeat of the season. What was supposed to be a clash between promotion contenders turned into something far grimmer: the Balearic side, frustrated by their lack of ideas and the early losses of Antoniu Roca and Morlanes in the first half, suffered their first home defeat of the campaign against a direct rival. Mallorca started well, with the reds dominating proceedings and creating the match's opening chances against an Almería content to sit deep and hit on the counter. Pablo Torre nearly turned one recovery into gold—after a moment of quality inside the box, he rattled the post. Then the game turned on its head. Antoniu Roca went down injured in what looked like a nothing incident, and the match shifted into another gear entirely. With Mallorca in disarray, Adrián Embarba tried his luck from distance with a direct free-kick, Arnau Tenas failed to hold the ball, and the striker arrived before anyone else in the six-yard box to tap it in. It was the first goal Mallorca had conceded at their stadium all season, after winning their previous three Son Moix matches without shipping a single one. In the second half, the reds went through the motions without real conviction while Almería sat deep. A save for the ages from Andrés Fernández. Álex Sala swung in a free-kick and John Donald connected from the penalty spot, but the Almería keeper's acrobatic stretch kept an inevitable-looking goal out. Almería were clinical in their finishing, Mallorca cursed by the injury gods: a match also marked by the losses of Antoniu Roca, Manu Morlanes and Frenchman Aboubaka Soumahoro. The stats say Mallorca played the better football, but you win games with goals and defending, not possession. That's the story of a matchday that proved promotion isn't won on good vibes alone.
