Burgos CF notches up their third consecutive victory against CD Eldense thanks to a David González goal to move into fourth position with 14 points. David González was decisive for his side with a left-footed strike in the final minute of the first half, in a match where the home side had to dig in during the closing stages against the visiting onslaught. One of those nights where Burgos weren't particularly dazzling at El Plantío, but knew how to hurt and defend after a fair bit of suffering; González's thing is already routine in Burgos, the lad's got some serious skill.

Sergio Francisco's team struggled to find attacking solutions for much of the opening period and it was Eldense who looked more comfortable on the ball. Rastrojo warned in the 15th minute with a shot over the bar and two minutes later Roberto López forced Cantero to intervene and divert behind for a corner. Calleja's men were better positioned out wide, but Burgos had their counterattack lines crystal clear. Llabrés could have found himself in front of goal in the 18th minute, but Larios read his cut-back and snuffed out the danger. The match worked like this: Eldense possession, concentrated Burgos defences, danger lurking in speed. But just when it looked like we'd head to the break level, a David González goal from Álex Forés' assist in the final minute of the first half tipped the scales. That's the old story in Segunda División: you mess up at the back and you get punished on the 45-minute mark.

In the second half Burgos managed the result perfectly and hardly suffered at all in the second act. Well, "hardly" is generous: Eldense had to get moving, attack, create chances, and the Burgos lads just parked themselves at the back in good order, without panic but without much flourish either. For Oviedo, playing this Sunday, García Pimienta's lead was looking cosier by the minute. The Alicante side tried to press in the final metres but couldn't find a crack; Burgos did what they had to do: shut up shop, protect their keeper with discipline, run down the clock. The red and blacks remain unbeaten at El Plantío and Eldense drop back into the relegation zone. Three wins out of three at home, fourth position, and David González did his job as silent executioner once more. That's the logic of Segunda División football: not always the one who plays prettier wins, but whoever finishes the job when it counts.
