📝 Match report

A hard-fought point-sharing result in Tenerife's return to Heliodoro Rodríguez López, marked by goals in the first half from Yáser Asprilla and Enric Gallego. Because this one-all draw that left the Heliodoro on Monday night wasn't down to luck or lack of effort, but rather two teams that stared each other down for ninety minutes without giving an inch. Girona went ahead from the off with an Asprilla goal in the third minute, a very straightforward finish inside the box. CD Tenerife returned to the Heliodoro after three consecutive setbacks, in a mini-crisis of results, so the visiting team's early strike looked like it was condemning the home side to another afternoon of pain. But no. Enric Gallego levelled with a header from the right side of the six-yard box, assisted by Nacho Gil with a cross in the 26th minute, restoring hope among the home fans. Parity held firm in the second half, in which Girona finished with a higher share of possession, but the chances were split evenly. Tenerife lacked that offensive drive in the final thirty minutes to make life difficult for the Catalans, who also failed to find a second goal despite controlling the ball. After the draw, Girona and Tenerife maintain almost unchanged positions in the table, with the islanders in twelfth place four points clear of both relegation and promotion, while Girona sit seventh just a point away from the promotion spots. 15,048 spectators attended a match without spark but functional, where the white and blues responded when called upon. Neither bad nor good: simply, exactly what the Islands needed right now.
