📝 Match report

Real Valladolid were reborn this season with a five-goal thrashing of Albacete on matchday nine of LaLiga Hypermotion, a visiting side that couldn't make "new manager, guaranteed win" stick and looked completely out of their depth against a dominant local team playing some proper football with their academy lads front and centre. Before kickoff, VRAC were honoured for their fortieth anniversary and performed the ceremonial kick-off. The match took place at José Zorrilla stadium in front of 16,575 spectators. To be honest, looking at the scoreline like that, it told you everything: Real Valladolid at their best of the season, and Albacete arriving with a new manager, Joseba Etxeberria, in his first league game, with barely any room to experiment. The Valladolid lads' opening goal came from a slick move down the right wing started by Alejo and continued by Ojeda, who sent over a perfect cross for Ponceau to head home with real power. Minute 14, a result that confirmed the hosts' superiority from the off. A minute 22 later, Real Valladolid got another one also from a header, following a pinpoint corner from Víctor Júnior that David Torres finished with precision. The white-and-violets were playing with the kind of composure that's worth its weight in gold in the Segunda División: they knew they had control, that their opponents had nothing, and that they could cruise through it. In the 31st minute, Arnu added the third to the Valladolid tally, result of a brilliant one-two between Víctor Júnior and Ponceau. By then, the Zorrilla was singing something almost forbidden in recent weeks: a thumping win, total control, proper football. Latasa made it four before half-time, and although Albacete didn't throw in the towel and fought to find ways back into it, neither Albarracín, whose shot Aceves deflected, nor Víctor Valverde da Silva, who hit the bar, could pull one back. With four goals in the first half, the tie was already settled. In the 54th minute, Arnu added another to the Zorrilla scoreboard, again after a good pass from Víctor Júnior. Pucela stayed solid and ruthless at the back to keep a clean sheet and win, making it four consecutive matchdays picking up points and sitting on 12 after nine games. Said like that it sounds almost dull, but trust me: that Tuesday in October in Valladolid was one of those nights that set the hope alight. You don't see a five-goal rout every year.
