Mallorca recovered their smile this Sunday at Son Moix with a 3-1 victory over Las Palmas, rediscovering winning form after two matchdays without a win. Las Palmas, hamstrung by nine absences, barely managed to mount any argument against local dominance during the first half. The match played out under threat of a storm, but the bermellones dispatched the affair with composure, organisation and clinical finishing.
Luis García Fernández's side came out determined with high pressing and intensity, with Pablo Torre and Álex Sala grabbing the spotlight; Sala had the first serious warning with a powerful drive onto the post, and shortly after a recovery from Josep Cerdà allowed Torre to open the scoring with a finish that deflected off Álex Suárez before going in. Mallorca thought they'd doubled their lead through Álex Sala following a slick move, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside. The hosts went into the break with a narrow advantage that didn't reflect their superiority. But the story changed after the restart. Álex Sala made it 2-0 with a spectacular effort from outside the box, a blow that seemed to have settled matters. Iván Jaime, with a powerful strike in the 73rd minute, scored the sole visiting goal, briefly cracking open a window of hope for the Canaries. UD Las Palmas squandered possession and Antonio Sánchez recovered it, playing through to Sergi Darder to slip a pass through for Adri Fuentes to round Caro and seal it with a chip.
Las Palmas's careless passing from the back condemned the yellow shirts, who couldn't capitalise on the imprecision. Mallorca secure a solid victory that keeps them in the promotion hunt, sitting fourth in the table, while Las Palmas continue their rough patch, extending to four consecutive matches without a win. A night for Mallorca's lads to restore lost confidence, and another shipwreck for the Canaries on their travels. All football, because without the storm threatening from Palma's skies things were seen with perfect clarity.
