📝 Match report

Granada claimed their first victory of the season in LaLiga Hypermotion with a convincing 2-0 win over Mallorca at Nuevo Los Cármenes in what was a thoroughly entertaining match, handing the visitors a harsh reminder of life in the Hypermotion depths. With Michael Schwimer, Granada's future owner, watching from the stands, the home side came out with intent from kick-off, but it was Mallorca who first got their hands on the ball with purpose. It wasn't enough: the visitors squandered what should have been the opening goal when Fuentes unleashed a thunderbolt that crashed against the post. The first half was end-to-end stuff, evenly matched and full of dangerous chances for both sides. Granada showed real hunger and José Arnaiz was involved in nearly every local opportunity, though luck wasn't on the Talavera winger's side. Then came the moment. Sergio López, who put in a standout performance, drove down the right flank and delivered a low ball into the box, and Pedro Alemañ controlled it with his back to goal, spun with quality and, with a left-footed finish to the far post, beat Arnau Tenas. A wonderfully taken goal that got Los Cármenes buzzing.

Mallorca felt the blow and Granada seized their momentum, but it remained 1-0 at the break. In the second half the Balearic side brushed themselves off and came back competing with real ambition, but the game's trajectory was shifting bit by bit. The killer blow came late on. In the 81st minute, from a corner, Arnau Puigmal put the ball into his own net—a play heavily protested by the visitors, who claimed the referee had blown his whistle while the ball was still in the air. In fact, the official, with his back to Gumbau's corner, whistled without seeing the ball was already in motion and left the away defenders frozen. It was such a controversial moment it could've ended the whole affair: Mallorca went ballistic, but the goal stood and sealed the victory. Los Cármenes celebrated a necessary and convincing win, one where Granada didn't need to control every phase of the match to get the job done: they were serious, clinical and solid.
