Alisson Becker
«the goalkeeper who scored with his head»
Developed at Internacional, where his older brother was also a goalkeeper, he arrived at Roma in 2016. In his second season in Italy he was decisive in the club's run to the Champions League semi-finals, and Klopp's Liverpool, who had just lost the Kyiv final with two goalkeeping errors, went for him.
The signing changed the team. In 2018-19 Liverpool won the Champions League in Madrid against Tottenham, and the following year the Premier League the club had been waiting for since 1990.
In May 2021, with Liverpool fighting for a Champions League place, the game at The Hawthorns was 1-1 in stoppage time. Alisson went up for a corner and headed in the winner. It was the first goal ever scored by a goalkeeper in the club's history in an official match.
That year had been very hard for him personally, and he celebrated in tears. It is one of those goals Anfield remembers more for what it meant than for what it was worth.
Roberto Firmino
«the number nine who was not a nine»
He left Brazil very young for Hoffenheim in Germany, where he spent four seasons and became an attacking midfielder. In 2015 Liverpool signed him, and Klopp, who arrived a few months later, made him the key piece of his system: the first to press, the one who linked the play and made those around him better.
With Salah and Mané he formed one of the most famous front threes of the decade. With them he won the 2019 Champions League and the 2020 Premier League, and scored the extra-time winner in the 2019 Club World Cup final against Flamengo. That same summer he had won the Copa América with Brazil, with Alisson in goal. Two men born on 2 October, champions of everything in the same year.

A Catalan goalkeeper who established himself at Espanyol and returned to Real Madrid, where he had come through the academy, as Keylor Navas's understudy. During his time at the Bernabéu, Madrid won three Champions Leagues in a row. He later played for Bielsa's Leeds, who won promotion to the Premier League.

Dates, clubs, individual awards and photos come from Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons, under free licences, and update themselves. Ages are not written anywhere: they are calculated the moment you open the page, so this page always shows the right age, this year and twenty years from now. If any of these players signs for another club or wins an award, their profile picks it up on its own. What is written by hand is the story and the judgement: who the day belongs to, and why.
